How Respite Care Supports Families and Caregivers

Caring for a loved one with a disability is deeply rewarding — and it can also be demanding. Respite care exists to give family caregivers a chance to rest and recharge, while their loved one continues to receive attentive, compassionate support.

What is respite care?

Respite care provides short-term relief for primary caregivers. It can be planned in advance — for an afternoon, a full day, or longer — or arranged to cover an unexpected need. The individual receives quality care from trained staff, and the caregiver gets time to attend to their own health, work, or family responsibilities.

Types of respite we offer

  • Hourly respite care — flexible support for a few hours at a time.
  • Daily respite care — full-day coverage when you need it most.

Why respite is so important

Caregiver burnout is real, and taking breaks isn’t a luxury — it’s part of providing sustainable, loving care. Studies consistently show that respite helps reduce stress, supports caregiver health, and can even strengthen the relationship between caregivers and the people they care for.
